Documentaire over 'tunnelvisie' in Hollowaydrama

Op 30 mei is het precies drie jaar geleden dat Natalee Holloway spoorloos verdween op Aruba. De verdwijning van de Amerikaanse heeft sindsdien een ongekende media-aandacht gekregen. Volgens de Curaçaose filmmaakster Renée Gielen leidt het hele opsporingsapparaat in de Holloway-zaak aan tunnelvisie.
 
Ondanks alle inspanningen van het Openbaar Ministerie en bijvoorbeeld misdaadverslaggever Peter R. de Vries zijn er nog altijd geen daders veroordeeld. Joran van der Sloot geldt weliswaar als hoofdverdachte nummer één, maar hij loopt nog steeds op vrije voeten.

Gielen heeft een documentaire gemaakt waarin de 'andere' kant wordt belicht, die van de familie Holloway zelf. Een kant die mogelijk ook raakt aan de politieke relatie tussen de Verenigde Staten en Nederland. Maandag 2 juni moet de documentaire klaar zijn.
 
"Tot nu toe is alles toegespitst geweest op Joran en de gebroeders Kalpoe, die Natalee iets aangedaan zouden hebben. De familie (van Natalee, red.) of iets anders van de Amerikaanse kant hebben we nooit gezien", zegt de documentairemaakster.
 
Het onderzoek door justitie is eenzijdig geweest en dat is niet de haak, vindt Gielen: "Er zitten altijd twee kanten aan een zaak. Als één kant niet onderzocht wordt, krijg je nooit een goed beeld van het totaal van wat er gebeurd zou kunnen zijn." Vóór de vermissing kan er ook veel gebeurd zijn, zegt ze.

Niet naar huis
 
"Natalee wilde niet naar huis", is de overtuiging van Gielen. Zij weet niet waarom ze niet naar huis wilde. Moeder Beth Twitty heeft nooit gereageerd op haar verzoeken om haar te spreken over de zaak. Uit de documentaire moet blijken, dat ze al wist dat Natalee niet naar huis zou komen voor ze vermist werd. De moeder kwam namelijk veel eerder op Aruba dan ze steeds heeft beweerd. Ze bracht posters mee met een oproep aan Natalee om contact op te nemen.
 
Gielen hoopt dat haar documentaire, waarin vreemde omstandigheden op een rij worden gezet, de deur opent naar een behoorlijk onderzoek. "Er blijkt een verband te bestaan tussen al die elementen en dat maakt duidelijk dat er iets met Natalee aan de hand was. Ik hoop dat dit tot nieuwe vragen gaat leiden."
 
Hoofdverdachte Joran van der Sloot komt in haar film niet voor en die is dan ook niet bedoeld om hem weer 'te pesten'. Gielen gelooft ook niet dat hij er iets mee te maken heeft, behalve dan dat hij erg dom is geweest door te liegen over de zaak.

Tegenwerking VS
 
Een van de bronnen van de journaliste is officier van justitie Gerald Dompig, die het onderzoek aanvankelijk leidde, maar later opstapte. Hij vertelt onder andere dat hij is tegengewerkt door de FBI en dat de politieke relatie tussen Nederland en de VS erbij betrokken raakte. "Het raakt bijna het Witte Huis", zegt hij in de documentaire. De stiefvader van Natalee heeft gezegd dat hij contacten heeft met het Witte Huis.
 
Gielen denkt dat de enorme aandacht in de VS bedoeld is om de aandacht af te leiden van de dingen die niet naar buiten mochten komen. Voor Dompig steekt ze de hand in het vuur. Het huidige onderzoeksteam op Aruba wilde in januari 'wegens drukte' niet met haar spreken.
 
Gielen is in Nederland in gesprek met mogelijke geïnteresseerde zendgemachtigden. Het is ook de bedoeling om de film in de Verenigde Staten op televisie te brengen. Hoe en wanneer Natalee, the unrevealed Time Lines op de Antillen en Aruba te zien zal zijn, is nog onbekend.

"So far everything has been focused on Joran and the Kalpoe brothers, who would have Natalee slightly affected. The family (of Natalee, red) or something else on the American side, we have never seen," says the documentairemaakster.

The investigation by Justice has been unilaterally and that's not the hook, find Gielen: "There are always two sides to an issue. If one side is not studied, you never get a good picture of the total of what happened could be . " Before the missing may also much happened, she says.

Not to go home
"Natalee did not want to go home", is the conviction of Gielen. They do not know why they do not want to go home. Mother Beth Twitty has never responded to its requests for her to speak about the case. The documentary must show that they already knew that Natalee would not go home for them was missing. The mother came much earlier than they ever Aruba has claimed. They brought posters along with a call to Natalee to contact us.

Gielen hopes that her documentary, in which strange circumstances in a row to be put, the door opens to a proper investigation. "There appears to be a link between all those elements and that makes it clear that something with Natalee on the hand. I hope that this will lead to new questions."

Hoofdverdachte Joran van der Sloot is not for her film and which is therefore not intended to him again 'bullying'. Gielen also believes that he is not there something to do with it, except that he has been very stupid to lie about the case.

U.S. Opposition
One of the sources of the journalist is Prosecutor Gerald Dompig, who initially led the investigation, but later opstapte. He says, inter alia, that he is opposed by the FBI and that the political relationship between the Netherlands and the U.S. became involved. "It touches almost the White House," he says in the documentary. The stepfather of Natalee has said that he has contacts with the White House.

Gielen thinks that the enormous attention in the U.S. intended to lead to the attention of the things that were not outwards. For Dompig they cross the hand in the fire. The current research team wanted to Aruba in January "due to crowds" does not speak with her.

Gielen Netherlands is in talks with potential interested broadcasters. It is also intended to film in the United States on television. How and when Natalee, the unrevealed Time Lines on the Antilles and Aruba will be seen, it is still unknown
